Aphid Midges Pupae

An effective part of long-term aphid control in urban settings is to colonize the aphid midge. This aphid predator over winters in tree, perennial ornamental and rose garden settings where there is protection from wind. They will colonize even where it snows. Re-introduction may not be required for three or four years.

Aphid Midge Release Recommendations:

A minimum order of 250 cocoons is enough for most home gardens. Rose bushes should receive 3-5 midges per bush and apple and shade trees should receive 5-10 midges per tree in spring when aphids appear or in mid to late August to reduce over wintering aphid egg populations.
