Teas & Formulas

The Keeper - Painting by Renee New Hejazeen

All plants are our brothers and sisters.
They talk to us and if we listen,
We can hear them.

--Arapaho

We offer our tea blends in loose form, using fresh, aromatic, vital herbs and caffeine free and made in small batches to ensure quality, taste, freshness and enjoyment. The herbs are 100% natural and if not an option, the use of wild-harvest or cultivated without chemicals. Most of the loose teas bring back the ancient spirit of the Native Americans in the Americas. The herbs originated with the native people of the Americas, who are very knowledgeable of the medicine plant spirits; which talk to them. We use only the finest natural herbs and spices to get the healthy, full bodied flavor. There’s nothing artificial (all the herbs are natural). Some roots might be slightly bitter, use a little honey to sweeten the tea blend, as needed (but not too hot with honey).

Please use caution if pregnant or breast feeding with these herbal teas.

Teas

Herbal teas can be made from most herbs. Teas are used for a wide range of purposes, with formulations aimed at specific conditions or desired effects.
Usually prepare the tea by infusion or decoction.

Decoction

A decoction is preferred for denser plant materials, such as roots or bark into a stainless steel, glass, or enamel pot. Add 12 or 16 ozs. Cold water, cover. Increase amounts accordingly for more tea. For best results, let soak for at least 20 minutes and up to 6 hours. Bring to boil, and then turn down to a bare simmer for 10-40 minutes, depending on how “medicinal” you want it. Cool if desired. Strain and drink.

Infusion

Let the dried herbs steep in hot water for 3 to 5 minutes. Put 1 heaping teaspoon of dried (double if using freshly picked) cut leaves and/or flowers into pre-heated mug, jar, or teapot. Add 8-12 ozs of boiling water. Increase amounts accordingly for more tea. Cover and let steep for 8 to 10 minutes. For a more “medicinal” effect, steep 15-30 minutes. Strain and drink. For cold infusion, steep herbs overnight or for 4 to 5 hours, then strain and drink.

Herbal Medicine Tea

When making Herbal Medicine Tea, the ratio is slightly different, but the above process is the same. Use 1 oz of herb per pint of 16 oz of distilled water. Double the boil time. Strain and refrigerate. After straining, you should get about 12 oz. The number of doses will vary depending on the herb used, but usually it is one to two ounces mixed with 2 ounces of distilled water. These teas are good for a week in the refrigerator.
